FAQ – Weddings

Spring is here
Wedding Photography – Toland Photography – Staffordshire
HOW DID YOU LEARN PHOTOGRAPHY?
I first started photography whilst living in South Korea and teaching at a British International school! I was head coach for a number of teams and toured South East Asia at least 6 times a year. I wanted to document my athletes journey, their struggles and their achievements, so those back at school, especially parents could share in the experience. So I bought my first Nikon! Then my first child was born and my love of newborn photography was born and it was a skill that seemed to come very natural to me. I completed a diploma course in Photography and began second shooting with other photographers in 2014. Since then I have become a Fully certified Adobe Photoshop Expert. I am continually experimenting with different shooting techniques and lighting, keeping up to date with all the current trends.
WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?
My style is a mixture of portrait and documentary as you will see through my portfolio. Yes I do those classic portrait shoots of family, bridal party and of course the Bride and Groom, but this takes up a maximum of 30-60 minutes of the day. I also like to then turn these portraits into silly moments, say something to make you laugh or distract you from the fact I’m taking your picture which helps to create those natural images. The rest is capturing the moments as I see them unfold in front of me.
WHEN SHOULD WE BOOK YOU FOR OUR WEDDING?
Its never to early to book, HONESTLY! I have bookings for 2020 already, the popular dates, especially Fridays and Saturdays in July and August. Just Contact me and let me know your date and I will get back to you within 48 hours on my availability.
HAVE YOU SHOT AT OUR LOCATION BEFORE?
I relocated to Staffordshire in May 2017 and have shot at a number of venues since being here, but there are lots that I haven’t yet had the pleasure to shoot at. The good news is that I LOVE shooting at new venues and I always go to visit a new venue to scout it out before the big day to make sure I know where the best spots to shoot are!
DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH (LARGE / SMALL / INDIAN / PERSIAN / JEWISH / CHRISTIAN / GAY / NON-RELIGIOUS) WEDDINGS?
Yes, of course!  It would be my pleasure to document your celebration of any faith, non-faith, or orientation.
HOW MANY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS DO YOU BRING TO A WEDDING?
This depends on the size of your wedding and the package you choose. I always recommend opting for a Second shooter as it will allow us to get great coverage especially during the ‘Prep phase’. One can be with the Bride and the other with the Groom. This means no one has to rush off and the moment you get into your dress or when your dad sees you (the bride) for the first time will be captured!
DO YOU INCLUDE VIDEO TOO?
I  do not video on the day as I find it can cause a distraction from my main person, to capture images of you. However, if this is something that you would like for your big day I have lots of connections and can recommend a number of companies that could provide this for you, this can be discussed at your wedding consultation.
DO YOU HAVE A DRONE?
I personally do not have a drone. However, if this is something that you would like for your big day I have lots of connections and can arrange for someone qualified and equipped to join me on the day, at an extra cost, again this can be discussed at your wedding consultation.
I REALLY WANT YOU TO STAY UNTIL THE END OF MY WEDDING. WILL YOU?
This is something that from experience is not really needed. You want to relax and have a few drinks after your first dance and people tend not to want the photographer capturing them when they’ve had a few. But we can add extra coverage (after the first dance) if this is something you do really want.
WHY DO I HAVE TO PROVIDE MEALS FOR VENDORS AT MY WEDDING?
Potentially, we/I are there from 9am until 9pm and therefore will need to eat at some point. However for weddings under 5 hours we do not require food. If you are unable to provide a meal we will need to take a one hour break during coverage to eat.
WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES AND PACKAGES?
We offer fixed packages but we can also tailor make a package for you and can be put together during your FREE wedding consultation.
IF MY WEDDING GOES ON LONGER THEN EXPECTED, WILL YOU BE ABLE TO STAY?
We realize your wedding may not stay on track with your timeline and that’s perfectly normal! Most weddings hit a snag or two and don’t start on time. We will make sure all of the important parts of your event are covered and if necessary, stay later to accommodate the change in your schedule. This is why we state ‘bridal prep to first dance’ so you don’t have to worry, we will be there to capture your first dance even if the day overruns.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE MY PHOTOS?
Engagement and family galleries will be available for online viewing approximately two to three weeks after the shoot.  Weddings normally take 4-6 weeks, however this maybe less if not within the busy wedding season.
I’M WORKING ON A BUDGET, WILL YOU GIVE ME A DISCOUNT?
Our packages have been carefully curated and priced according to their value, so the short answer is “No”. However, no two weddings are alike and as such, we would love to create a custom package that suits exactly what you need! Please contact us for details!

DO YOU OFFER A WEDDING ALBUM?
We offer our brides, grooms and their families LUXURY albums. They range in size, colour and style. I have a number of samples that I will bring to your wedding consultation so that you can get a real feel for them.

I DON’T PHOTOGRAPH WELL AND I AM SUPER AWKWARD IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA— DOES THIS MATTER?
I am just like you, not keen in being infant of the camera and understand that you might not have experience of being photographed and I’m here to help through a variety of ways. You would be surprised how many people ask me this question, and from me getting you into a specific pose, showing you what to do, where to put hands etc and then saying ‘now rub noses’ will make you feel silly, laugh and ultimately forget about me and ‘boom’ theres the natural laughing shoot.  Of course, some people take a little longer to warm up, and in those cases I just take a few practise shots giving you lots of feedback and praise…always helps. You’ll see from my portfolio the most stunning shots are the ones when the Bride and Groom are interacting with each other, wether its talking, walking or laughing. I promise, I make it painless and fun, and it won’t be nearly as bad as you think!
MY (HUSBAND/WIFE/FIANCEE/CHILD) HATES BEING IN PHOTOS—CAN YOU HELP ME?
Again, this is more common then you think and don’t worry it would be my pleasure to help. With children, I often bring a bag of treats (one might call them bribes) which I will discuss with you in advance to make sure that you are okay with what I plan to bring. Engagement sessions are a great way to practice being in front of the camera and for me to give you some helpful tips to one ‘how to pose’ e.g. drop shoulder, turn hips etc. After all I want you to love your pictures and thats only going to happen if you look like your happy confident and having fun!
